State control over private lives...
State control over private lives... This definition of fascism seems to describe the Patriot Act and much of the agenda of the Bush Administration: Paxton further defines fascism's essence as: "1. a sense of overwhelming crisis beyond reach of traditional solutions; 2. belief one’s group is the victim, justifying any action without legal or moral limits; 3. need for authority by a natural leader above the law, relying on the superiority of his instincts; 4. right of the chosen people to dominate others without legal or moral restraint; 5. fear of foreign "contamination." The fit is so clear you would think the author was describing current events... Scary to me. |

I understand many's worry about freedom - however, it does mystify me - I suggest that what have done so far to address this war we are in is a mere drop in the bucket of what will happen after next attacks -- and / or realization of the true depth of the belief system behind them,... no matter which party or individuals are at the helm. It is also easy to argue that our "freedoms" are our "Achilles Heel", and already being greatly exploited & used by this enemy. "Give me freedom or give me death" - they will say, OK, sure, ur dead. "You ain't seen nothin yet"! ... .i think

America is awfully big and strong with 300 Million souls. Even a dirty bomb attack in several cities cannot stop us. We will not let terrorists control us or force us to live in fear. I feel Iraq is a mistake and we are getting stuck in a civil war and quagmire. We don't have a sensible exit strategy.

hi guy ... i like the stuff you do Im sure you did not mean it this way, but it almost sounded like loosing many, millions maybe? ... is not that bad as i see it, what the "bad guys" will do knows NO bounds ...... including "clean" bombs that kill instantly, sorry, not a subject to joke on, i take back "clean" .... make that "hot" .....which they WILL do ..... and / or hitting our nuke plants etc etc .... not talking about "living in fear" vs tradeoffs, ....but the harder we go to stop them, the less i & others will have fear. I guess it all comes down to how great and pervasive a threat ones sees it .... if one sees "minor" casualties, ... then what is the problem? is a viable question .... but if one has reason to believe that threat is huge ... .will kill millions and likely take out us as an entity (like, it aint easy to hit & stop them ... they are not a country) ... then nothing should stand in the way of at least trying to stop them Iraq, is separate item from Islamic Caliphate objectives .... i also see no good solution there.... the dream of democracy for people want a theocracy is a naive falacy ... and without a dictator, they renew century old sect wars. ... maybe bring back Sadaam?? .......... democracy doesnt work all that well here is obvious, ... but when the Qur'an forbids democracy, it & fail for sure in counties abiding by it. If only those on BOTH sides of this issue would just read the Qur'an ... just a spot check few verses ... then we would all be on the same "reality" page - yet everyone spouts off on instinct, not on facts .. .both positions do, ... and we get nowhere

I do not think the terrorists could cause a nuclear attack even on the scale of Hiroshima. I am upset and angered by 9/11 but the attack killed less than 3,000 and maimed many more from the pollution and the effect on the families and friends. Strategically such attacks cannot bring down the country or the economy. I do not want to end american liberty and freedom to fight terrorists. I do not want fascism to control the US. We should fight in Afghanistan and chase the Taliban and Alqueda everywhere, but I think Iraq is ungovernable, and the sooner we are out of there the better IMO.
