Vlad Rides Again

I guess MissAnnThrope's name for the car has officially stuck. Vlad the Impala (groan)

Vlad's been sitting in my driveway ever since getting towed back the last 40 miles from my 750 mile float trip. I called my mechanic a while back and he hasn't gotten over here to get it fixed.

Yesterday when i was coming home , my intention was to clean up and go watch Jerry Springer Live well actually it's free beer for the ladies night at a local bar, but it's the same effect. Drama, tits and lots of missing teeth.

However as i walked past Vlad to my front door, i changed my mind. I'll fix the busted transmission coolant line myself. So i turned around , got back in the van and ran to the store to buy some tranny fluid.

I returned home, put a couple of quarts in and started the car, then crawled under to spot the problem. Sure enough it's squirting out of one of the fittings going into the transmission housing. The tube flare inside the fitting must have given out.

I pop the trunk, pull out my tool box, jack the car up high enough for my fat ass to get under it, and pull the old line.

I take it back up to the parts store and see if they have a new line. They do , but it's s straight piece of metal tubing, as opposed to my line which is curved and bent in places to accommodate the vehicle. So i have to buy a tubing bender too.

I get home and get to work on bending the new tube to match the old one. I actually do a pretty good job of matching it up.

Crawl back under the car and it fits perfectly! Yes, i love it when a repair goes well.

I then start the car and run it through the gears, the car wants to move. I top off the transmission so it's properly filled and move my tools out of the driveway. Drop the hood and go for a test run.

It's behaving like it should, however i just noticed my generator light is on again. Yes again.

I pull into the parts store and we put a voltmeter on it, Sure enough my voltage regulator is has gone bad again. Good grief, i put the last one on 300 miles ago. Since it's just a few minutes before 10 and i'm beat, i decide i'll fix that another day.

They sell what's called a 1-wire alternator, where the voltage regulator is inside the alternator. I'm going to switch mine out for it and hope that solves the problem. if not then i will have to have the wiring looked at by a professional.

damn car!

Heh. First "demon spawn" rubs off on you and now Vlad. Yes, there shall be a job in the cult for you.

Vlad has been named aptly. That car was a vampire before you got it.
