Any thoughts on Trophies?

Any thoughts on Trophies? Trophies were added back when I wasn't here so I'm curious what people think about it. My first impression is that it's a bit of a half-baked idea... giving people a trophy for creating a blog might not be as effective as just better promoting the blogs on your profile page. I'm thinking to make "Blog" be a tab just like Photos/Videos. Would you like Trophies expanded to other things, stay as it, or remove?

We've been members for several years and trophies have passed us by. Don't understand their function.

Trophies are a complete and utter waste of time. Does anyone on this site bother to look at them? I'd get rid of them, and bring back profile background bling and the kudos feature.

I really don't think that hardly anybody knows or cares what they are about. Half-baked as you say, and pretty pointless I think. Remove. Blog tab would be great ! For ages many people have been asking for a direct link to 'My Blog' from homepage.

Get rid of them...they are pointless. +1 to adding an easy way to get to someone's blog, I recommend at the top on the header like when someone is on IMC or broadcasting on webcam.

I've never understood the point of trophies. But I really like the idea of a blog tab, especially if it is linked to the profile of a blogger. Check out my profile or and become a "watcher" of my blog FMAOPLS,to learn more about me, and for intelligent, lively, smartassy and fun discussion, with a little irreverence thrown in. "Like" or comment on my photos, and I promise I'll add more. Thanks.

Hello, the trophies are too highly competitive. I think the goals are too high to complete on each area. I thought I got all four goals only got three completed. They changed the goals since I was on some years ago. If you do not remove it lower the goals so you can achieve those goals and not work to hard in order to achieve it. It could be expanded in other things just along as the member are able to meet the goals required. Remove. I see it as a useless features. One less useless features for the site to deal with when there is problem.

Trophies seem a bit pointless if there's no tangible reward? One of the most unique aspects of the site is blogging, I can't help but feel that not enough is made of this facility as a potential draw. I reckon a link from the initial profile page to 'set up my blog' would encourage a few new members to the community. Great stuff so far Andy, where the hell have ye been?

When I look at a profile (either out of interest or to better understand a blog or group post) I don't pay attention to the trophies. I actually forgot they even have that feature. It's not even prominent enough to particularly noticeable. I think a link to someone's blog is more beneficial.

I never saw any use for the trophies. I don't see the need for voting on the blog and group posts either.

Personally, I have no use for the "trophy" function...and frankly, I didn't have a whole lot of use for the "kudos" function, either. To the extent that these "rewards" can prompt spam-type competition, I don't think they add anything to the site. Rewards should come as a result of participation, not as a gimmick that can be abused by the user and his/her friends. . I think it would be much more useful to give a point (or a few points) to a member's "bank" every time s/he contributes content to the site. The points could then be used to "buy" privileges, as they are now. You don't want to give so many points that you encourage spam posting, but watching points add up could stimulate actual participation...and such a system is immune to the "friends and family" effect that "kudos" had. .

Really have to watch that any reward system is not easy to 'game', and the activities of those taking unfair advantage proves irritating to members. Genuine participation should be encouraged though, but only with small amount of points for each action, or you end up with people clogging the boards with ten blogs in a row, and posting shit comments, just to get their points. Needs to be over a longer term, no advantage achievable in a day or two of spamming.

Here's an idea with the trophies. How about giving members something in return for earning and maintain the trophies they earn. Maybe something like earning points towards discounts off the premium memberships and/or site services, or towards free email and profile viewing for the standard members. Could be done on a monthly earned basis. In my opinion and thoughts it would help in increasing the activity of members in the different forums.

Andrew replies on 3/3/2013 12:35 am: The votes used to be incorporated into kudo like weightings Kudos doesn't exist anymore. Unless a similar program is in the plans somewhere down the road, voting is no longer needed. I really don't see a constructive use for it.

They're useless. A blog tab on the profiles, on the other hand - would be awesome. Also, as someone else mentioned, a direct link to get to one's own blog from the home page.
